After a while, cabinets are prone to not shutting, getting warped or moving. Despite these issues, it can be easy to fix them and get the doors back into alignment. You only need a few tools to fix the problem like screws and wood glue, and perhaps a drill if more serious problems are present. In most cases, it just takes the removal of old hinges and screws and replacing them with new ones to fix the problem.

If the doors are still not aligned after you've tried to tighten everything, the holes may be warped. Take the hinges off and drill out the warped hole so it is clean. Fill it with a wooden dowel covered by wood glue and allow it to dry. After it is dried, you can drill the holes again and reinstall the cabinet door.
To ensure a close fit with cabinet doors, you can install new hinges that self-close, which contain springs that force the cabinet to close tightly. If changing the hinges still does not work, you can add a magnetic latch that holds the door shut. Replacing hinges can also enhance the look of the cabinet, as well as fix any problems you may have.
Damaged wood or paneling can be fixed by using wood putty to conceal marks or cracks and a coat of paint or varnish to smooth it out and provide a nice finish. If some cabinets just have too much wear and tear, it may be easier to replace them. Many issues can be solved with wood glue, and most often it takes just a replacement of hinges to get the doors even and make them shut properly.

Painting cabinets, aside from fixing them, can update a kitchen look, which in turn enhances the look and value of the home. Since cabinets are often a focal point of the kitchen, it pays off to keep cabinets usable and in good shape. Employees of a home improvement store can offer tips and advice on how to fix various cabinet problems in case you have a limited knowledge of carpentry.
