Mechanics

Mechanics is a variety of specialised sciences pertaining to the functions and routine operations of machines, machine-like devices or objects. Under this topic, we will be discussing about the following...

Mechanics - Mass, Weight, Density and Volume

Mass is the amount of matter in an object or substance. Weight is the amount of gravitational force acting on an object. Density is the amount of matter per unit volume of an object. Volume is the amount of space occupied by an object or substances.

Matter can be solid liquid an gases.

Substances above referred to mainly liquid and gas.

Mechanics - Kinematics

A study of mainly distance, displacement, speed, velocity, acceleration. Distance is a scalar quantity in which the length an object traveled. Displacement is a vector quantity in which the length and the direction  between the starting and the ending point. Speed is a scalar quantity of which distance traveled by an object per unit time. Velocity is a vector quantity of which the displacement traveled by an object per unit time. Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity per unit time.

There are 4 important graphs that all learners need to know...

  • Distance-Time Graph
  • Displacement-Time Graph
  • Speed-Time Graph
  • Velocity-Time Graph

Mechanics - Force, Vector and Scalar Quantities

Force = Mass X Acceleration

Vector quantity specifies both the magnitude and direction of a measurement whereas scalar quantity specifies only the magnitude of a measurement.

Mechanics - Work, Energy and Power

Work is the amount of force acting on an object over the distance traveled by the object. Energy is the amount of work done per unit time. Power is the amount energy exerted on an object per unit time.

Mechanics - Principles of Moments

Moment is a vector quantity that represents the magnitude of force applied to a rotational system at a distance from the axis of rotation.

Mechanics - Pressure

Pressure is the amount of force acting per unit area. This mainly cover pressure in solid and liquid. There will also be discussions on Barometer and manometer.
