Where's George? has become an American
phenomenon, with online currency tracking in both the United States
and now, the spin-off Where's Willy? for Canadians. Created December
23, 1998, the Where's George website has been featured in USA Today,
The Washington Post and the New York Times. Even the Wall Street
Journal did a segment on this popular currency tracking website,
that has become the latest buzz.
If you've ever wondered where your
money travels to, you can track it at the Where's Geroge? website
by entering the denomination, serial number and series of any US
dollar bill along with your current USA zip code or Canadian postcode.
However, if your currency is not already marked with the web address,
no one will know to login to track your money. This is where a Where's
George? self-inking rubber stamp or a mounted rubber stamp comes
in. Sure, you can scrawl the web address on your bills, but wouldn't
it be quicker, faster and easier to mark all your currency at once
with a convenient Where's George? rubber stamp?
Isn't this illegal? Apparently not.
Even though many have grown up told they shouldn't deface United
States currency, the legal definition is kind of open to interpretation.
On the Where's George website, FAQ, the owners state that "Where's
George? Does not encourage the defacement of U.S. currency"
and that "the law defines 'illegal' defacement as defacement
that renders the bill unfit to be reissued." So - unless you
use your handy Where's George? Rubber stamp to obliterate all the
details on your currency, you're in the clear. With the millions
of individuals tracking their dollars in the United States and Canada,
it seems to be the latest craze.
Where's
George? Is a concept that can be used by teachers, parents,
and civic groups to help teach the value of money, and how it is
circulated. By purchasing a convenient Where's George? Self-inking
or Where's George? Mounted rubber stamp you can participate in a
North American phenomenon, while learning the value of money. Consider
purchasing a quality Where's George self-inking or mounted rubber
stamp to use at home, or in your work or volunteer groups. By participating
in the Where's George? Phenomenon you are helping others see just
how far a dollar can go!- Lauri Jean Crowe
