Hydrox Cookie
mm mm.... Hydrox Cookies. Who doesn't remember these cookies. It's The original chocolate sandwich cookie that predates the Oreo by 4 years (1908 vs. 1912 for Oreo), but forever suffered the misconception of being a cheap knock off of the supposed original "Oreo" cookie.

For 90 years we enjoyed Hydrox cookies, then the brand was sold, renamed Droxies, sold again, then finally discontinued in 2003...booooo!!

Kellogg's, the current owner of the Hydrox brand, does sell a surprisingly similar cookie under their Famous Amos Brand:

I think it tastes darn near 90% the same, but, dang it, I want the whole 100%. Apparently I wasn't the only one as there were many petitions, sent emails, telephone calls to Kellogg's in support of their return.....It worked!!!

So he we are in 2008, unofficially designated the "Year of the Hydrox" (should be official soon enough) and for a limited time (hopefully longer) Kellogg's will celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the Hydrox cookie with a re-release of the original.

So, snap them up while you can, because there's a chance they'll be gone in a "hydrox minute"!

Here is the official site for Hydrox Cookies

hello sunshine: how could you bring back my favorite cookie for a few months then completely remove it from all the supermarket shelves in the long island area. That is soooo cruel. When your company from brought the hydrox cookie on the scene it was a bleak year for the then NY BASEBALL GIANTS.For you see that was 1908 the year of the famous Merkle incident and now we have 2009.What a mean trick to play on a senior citizen!!!!!!!!stan o

FINALLY found them in Concord, NC last Saturday (1/24/09). Saved them for the Super Bowl and am eating them now!!!!!! The filling is definitely not that dry sweet cream that lifts off the cookie whole like a Communion host as the original did, but the cookie itself is much closer. :)

I sure hope they keep making these again.....

Got mine tonight! Yum!
Was just in my local Pathmark grocery store tonight looking for some goodies. Was just about to grab some chocolate grahams when I saw Hyrox! I said screw the grahams and I grabbed my Hydrox. Eating them now! Yum! Hope they end up keeping Hydrox around. They are the best!
