Best Lawn Mower Under $300 | #1 Self-Propelled – Review
Best Lawn Mower Under $300
The Husqvarna 7021P ($275 on Amazon with free shipping) is a 21″ push mower with an excellent 160cc GCV Honda engine and is the best lawn mower under $300 period!! Let me tell you why I feel this way:
I have a 12 year old Lawn Boy that’s starting to leak oil as well having a muffler that’s rotting out. The noise is getting rather extreme. 2012 is the year for a new mower!

I have 2 fairly large yards I have cut (my mom’s) with lots of difficult areas to take care of, so I use my mower pretty hard. The one I have is beat, so it’s time for a new one.
I could have just jotted down to Lowes and bought the one on sale, but I felt I should put some research into this, with the tons of info available on the web since I last bought a lawnmower. Plus, my last research project in Feb worked out well when I needed to replace my Sharp 25″ TV from 1994 with a new hdtv tv. I researched for about a month before settling on this Samsung 32 inch led TV. Wow, what a TV. BTW, LED is the way to go!!
Anyway, I needed a new lawnmower and didn’t want to spend more than $300 as I was suffering from a recurring case of “funds-are-low” so I figure I’d buy one on Amazon with their no sales tax and free shipping.
Best Lawn Mower Under $300 – The Husqvarna 7021P
I have a neighbor who recently bought this self-propelled Lawnboy. He let me borrow it for my first cut of the season. I liked it a lot *Very nice!!!* and probably would have considered it but I don’t like self-propelled as I have a twisty-turny type lawn with plenty of bushes and a few trees, so a regular push behind mower works better for me and my lawn.
I wanted a mower with mulching feature, large rear wheels (for better maneuverability), a big engine as I sometimes slack off and my grass grows half-way up my car and a price under $300.
I went to website after website and forums like http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/lmower/ before coming to the conclusion that the Husqvarna 7021P would be the lawnmower for me. Now let
me tell you a little bit about it:
One neat thing is there is no goofy primer bulb to push, so no chance of flooding the engine. For a cold start, you slide the choke lever over to the right then squeeze the safety bar and pull the cord. The choke turns off by itself. The motor is from Honda. I have a Honda generator and it runs like a champ.
I like the sound of the Husqy. It’s got a nice deep rumble. I also liked the fact that it came from Amazon pretty much ready to mow. I simply had to extend the handles, tighten them add the included oil and put some gas and she was ready to roll.
———————————-Here’s my 10 hour update————————————-
I’ve mowed my lawn, my elderly neighbor’s across the street and my mom’s twice already this season and I’ll say: Starts on the first pull; really like the big rear wheels. The dual bearing wheels made pushing a breeze and it goes thru tall grass like nothing.
Anyhow, I think this Husqvarna 7021P is the best lawn mower under $300 by far, especially for anyone who is cheap like me.
I am very happy with my purchase and consider it the best lawn mower under $300. Just because I didn’t want a self-propelled mower doesn’t mean I had to settle for some piece of junk. I remember when you could get a nice, basic lawn mower for under $150, but it seems that those days are gone. Walmart does sell some cheap ones, but I have yet to try them. I’m very happy with my Husqy, but I will post an update if anything changes.
The Husqvarna 7021P is a quality mower with a great engine and good build quality. It performs like a champ and leaves my lawn looking well groomed and all for under $300. I highly recommend this mower as it’s clearly the best walk behind mower period as far as I’m concerned.
