Electric Hot Water Heater Stopped Working

Water Heater Repair
The problem may be a tripped fuse, a thermostat that is set too low, or a problem with the heating element or heater controls.

- Check the obvious first. Go to the main breaker panel and check for any tripped breakers or blown fuses. If a circuit/fuse continues to blow, call in an electrician for repairs.

- Since the water temperature was fine before, it doesn't seem likely that the thermostat would be set too low. Check it anyway, though.

- The high-temperature cutoff in the heater may have tripped. They are located where the thermostats are. Remove the cover and push the reset button.

- If there is still a problem, then suspect the heating element(s). They can be tested with a continuity checker (a test light). Replacing a heating element is not a difficult job.

I have a 5 year old electric hot water heater that continually trips the 30 amp circuit breaker after approx 3 hours of use. Any suggestions?? Could it be a faulty breaker?

You need new heating elements, and if you are handy, you can put them in yourself, but make sure the upper temp is slightly higher then the lower temp as well

I thank you very much for your information. I am a single parent and hate to call the land lord for repairs. Anything I can do my self I usually do. My water heater stopped working and I did what you said. It worked. All I had to do was hit the reset button. We should have hot water in a bit thanks to you.
