A dishwasher
that won't fill can have a few sources as the problem:
1)
Check for low water pressure at the tap. It could be a city water
problem. This is usually temporary.
2)
The water that fills your dishwasher is controlled by a float, much
like the float in a toilet. As the water rises, so does the float,
eventually causing the float switch to shut the water off.
The float could be stuck or its movement impeded. Remove bottom
rack of diswasher and then the cover of the float assembly. Verify
it moves freely.
3)
You will need a multimeter to check the float switch itself, which
is accessed by removing the service panel that is below the door.
The switch is just below the float assembly and is held in place
by a few screws or possibly a clip. Turn off power to washer, disconnect
switch from the float assembly and replace, if needed.
4)
There could be an obstruction in the water-inlet hose at the inlet
valve. Remove the dishwasher from its cubby hole by removing remove
the service panel, then unscrewing the dishwasher from the countertop.
Disconnect the water inlet hose and check for any sediment buildup.
5)
There could be a problem with the fill valve, drain valve or
drain solenoid. Call in a pro for this.
