When
a dishwasher detergent dispenser starts acting up, there is usually
a detergent clogging problem present. Rinse out the dispenser cup
and try switching to a liquid gel detergent.
There
also could be a problem with the spring on the dispenser having
gone bad. The spring can be replaced by first removing the front
panel of the dishwasher, then loosening the bolts that hold the
dispenser cup to the dishwasher door.
If
the dispenser cup is not spring-loaded, then chances are it uses
either a bi-metal switch or a wax motor to disengage the door. These
can be swapped out.
A
defective timer switch can also be at fault.
